Drug Addicts and Alcoholics: by paula fryling

What is the difference between an alcoholic and a drug addict? If you think about it, nothing really. Except the choice of substance...

Whether it's pills, alcohol, Meth, Cocaine, X, heroin, anything, it is still a mind altering drug. Also, you're not addicted to something until you set out for the second time. Like, if you pick up a beer or any drug and get that great sensation, then cool, you've experienced it...but if one day, whether it's the next day or a year later, you decide to pick it up again, you're "ADDICTED." No matter what you say. Same goes with every drug out there. The best bet is to NEVER to pick it up. People make mistakes and sometimes do.

We alcoholics/drug addicts need the same amount of help. We are all "SICK." We are no more or lesser than anyone in the world. We just need the help and there is no problem with asking for help.

A friend of mine once said, "SOBER means, Short Of Being Entirely Recovered." To me this meaning covers for all addicts not just alcoholics. Which is true, we'll never really be fully recovered for the rest of our lives until our day comes to pass away, clean and sober.

RECOVERING ADDICTS

People have their ups and downs. I know I do.

People go through their lives mostly seeing bad and rarely any good, but now is that time to STOP that trend. We beat ourselves up thinking we were brought up in a horrible world. The TRUTH is, it may have been bad, but we are the strongest beings on earth. Sober, clean, non-users will never have the complete knowledge, strength and patience like us addicts who have experienced it personally.

We are worth everything to ourselves, our family and our friends. We have and still are developing high spirits in our process of recovery. Without one another, where would we be? Nowhere, that's where. Still using, still drinking or still doing all the other addictive activities. WE DON'T WANT THAT LOW LIFE ANYMORE!!! NO! NO! NO!

All those who are recovering from their addiction, have a place in their heart for the other addicts, those who WANT to change.

I thank GOD for allowing me to experience drugs, alcohol and all other things. Without experiencing them, I wouldn't have known I had an addiction to people, places and things. Now I can stand here and say, "I have learned my ways to the fullest. I will not be a statistic and I will help others recover."

Luckily, I was able to end very early in my life and was given the opportunity to meet my dearest friends during the beginning stages of my recovery.

I LOVE EVERYONE OF US!

ADDICTS By Paula Fryling

What is the definition of addict?

Is it someone who has a problem with drugs or alcohol? Or is it someone who has a fondness with something and can't pull away? To me, they're all considered addicts. Not just drugs and alcohol, but also people addicted to other people, places or things and even gambling.

You see, the world has a numerous amount of addicts of all sorts. It doesn't make us any different from one another.

People think we are weak for not being perfect. No one is perfect, and everyone is an addict in their own way. If anything, we are stronger beings when we overcome an addiction because we learn positives and negatives and become more wise about ourselves, surroundings and others.

The worst thing a person can do is beat yourself down by not having confidence, not believing in yourself, never trying and not doing something for yourself.

Always remember, we are the most precious things created by our heavenly father. He believes in us 100%, so we should also believe in ourselves and every suffering addict out there who needs our support too.

I KNOW there is hope for everyone who seeks it. I KNOW this because the people in this room are full of hope. Hope, love, caring and knowledge to share with everyone to strengthen our minds and selves to carry with us for the rest of our lives.

We can thank GOD for providing one another for each other to carry on our lives to live HAPPILY with ourselves.

WE CAN DO IT! YES WE CAN!

Love,
Paula Fryling
